Its Just Hair or Youre Just Ignorant free essay sample

â€Å"It’s just hair.† That was my barrier, my defense to the augmented eyes and dropped jaws. At the point when individuals asked how I could do it how I could go from my socially adequate, mid length hair to a mohawk my reaction was consistently the equivalent: â€Å"It’s only hair.† In my blameless, unassuming brain, a change, albeit as a matter of fact radical, in haircut couldn’t have perhaps brought about a change concerning how I was seen mentally or socially. That thought was immediately refuted. On the off chance that it was â€Å"just hair,† my mom wouldn’t have abstained from looking at me without flinching for the following not many months. On the off chance that it was â€Å"just hair,† cashiers’ looks wouldn’t have tailed me as I entered their stores. In the event that it was â€Å"just hair,† I wouldn’t have been dealt with any contrastingly in any case. Be that as it may, those things did occur, and thusly, the mohawk came to mean something different totally. We will compose a custom article test on Its Just Hair or Youre Just Ignorant or on the other hand any comparative theme explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page Each and every other part of myself had stayed consistent as those locks were shorn I didn’t build up a defiant or impolite mentality, my evaluations didn’t drop, nor did I dismiss my scholarly interests and scholastic objectives. My mohawk didn't pardon me from any of my willful commitments to prevail as a practiced understudy or a necessary piece of my locale. It was a remarkable inverse: by communicating any held defiant wants through the innocuous outlet of a basic hair style, I smothered those equivalent wants in different parts of my life. I realized that my decision of hairdo said nothing regarding my scholarly accomplishments, my habits, or what my brain was able to do. In spite of the fact that I, myself, knew about this total absence of inner change, others didn’t get on as fast. Out of nowhere, on the grounds that the sides of my head had been shaved down to a dainty layer of hair, I was seen as a less capable understudy educators got wary of the work I turned in, driving me to work more enthusiastically to aggregate similar evaluations I could have handily gotten previously. My great conduct was not, at this point acknowledged at face esteem. I had grown up acquainted with naturally increasing an adult’s trust through my conscious and harmless mien. When the individual in question saw my mohawk, however, my manner was viewed as a ploy, a slippery endeavor to misleadingly charm the person in question, and the idea of trust emptied. As these individuals came to realize me better, they reevaluated their early introductions. They saw me tune in to power figures, take bearing without protest, and consciously voice my conclusion. They likewise watched me break down writing, demonstrate theories, and enjoy seeking after my training. They may have changed the picture they had developed in their own heads, however that underlying uncertainty has for all time adjusted the manner in which I see myself. My hair doesn't characterize me, and to pass judgment on me dependent on something so irrelevant is a misstep. At long last, â€Å"it’s just hair,† at any rate, and there are a bigger number of parts to me than strands on my head.

Napster Essay - 997 Words

Napster: The Debate Over Copyright Infringement In early 1999, Shawn Fanning, a Northeastern University freshman, created Napster software. That summer he made it available for free through his Napster.com website. Napster is a peer-to-peer technology, which makes it possible for users to freely share their music files through the internet with other users all over the world. Specifically, this is how Napster works: 1.)nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;A user sends a request for a song. 2.)nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;Napster checks its database of music to see if the song is on the PC hard-drive of another Napster user whose computer is turned on (Note: No music is stored on Napster servers). 3.)nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;Napster†¦show more content†¦Among the Biblical standards present in this case are trust, respect, responsibility, fairness, and citizenship. With respect to trust, Napster claims that it has put trust in its users that they will not download or share copyrighted material. Though Napster itself does not steal any copyrighted material, it has been proven that, more often than not, its users do. Napster users have not shown respect for the autonomy of the artists who produce the copyrighted music that they are downloading. Though the company is receiving much criticism, Napster has shown some semblance of responsibility, fairness, and citizenship. Napster has demonstrated responsibility by offering $1 billion to the recording industry to settle its lawsuit. It has demonstrated fairness and citizenship by cooperating with the due process of the law and obeying the commands of the Court. The company was sued, then filed an appeal to the decision handed down by the court, lost its appeal, and finally abided by the court’s ruling. One alternative Napster could pursue would be to work with the music industry to distribute certain sample tracks to the public. These tracks could be distributed royalty-free as promotion for the album, or Napster could agree to pay royalties. A knee is defined as a joint which is situated between the shin bone and thigh bone. The function of the knee is to allow flexibility for the movement of the bones. A hard knock in the leg, especially behind the knees, could be much painful. The area where the hard knock occurs is known as the popliteal fossa and the nerves found in this area are called as popliteal nerve (Sata et al., 2014).These nerves are mainly responsible for sensation and strength in the motor regions when these nerves travel from the lower leg to the foot. An injury to the popliteal nerve results in tingling effect, numbness.pain and weakness in the foot, ankle and lower leg. At times, hematoma causes the compression of the nerves.there is another nerve called peroneal nerve which wraps around the fibula and further breaks into the deep and superficial peroneal nerves. They are responsible for providing sensation to the skin which is present at the base of the foot. Along with this, there are many other possible symptoms associated with this hard knock. The primary symptom of this knock could be swelling, worn out ligaments in the area surrounding the knock, sprain, fractures and partial or complete damage to the synovial membrane. These symptoms call for immediate treatment. Otherwise, they would result in major problems. Swelling is the situation, where the blood is released in the affected area and gets accumulated in the injured body part (Fleming et al., 2015). This is a visible symptom as they occur immediately after the injury to body part. Then is the case of worn out ligaments in the area. Ligaments are defined as the soft tissue s, which maintain the flexibility of joints. If the ligament is injured, then it causes major pain to the person. Fractures may be said as the combination of damage to ligaments and swelling. The beaking of bone is along with the hard tissues is termed as the fracture. The pain of the fracture is uncontrollable and it could tale at least 15 days to 1 month for the patient to recover from it depending upon the nature of the fracture. A sprain is the other type of symptoms associated with the knock. Sprains are the result of coagulation of blood and acids in the affected area, and it causes fatigue in the leg. Thus, it is seen that humans are prone to injuries. These injuries could happen anytime and anywhere. The knee is a very important area of the human body because the mobility of the joints depends on it. A hard knock in the knee area could result in many symptoms. If these symptoms are not given treatment immediately, then they would cause the major problem to the patient. References: Fleming III, J.F., Beck, A. and Rolfe, K.W., 2015. Free Essays on Shroud And Tomb Of Christ

There almost always has been, and most likely always will be much debate over the origin of the Tomb of Christ and the Shroud of Turin, and the authenticity of these two remnants of Christ. The church of the Hole Sepluchure, where both Golgotha and the tomb of Jesus are said to be enclosed, has been around since the days of the first Christian king, while the Shroud of Turin was not well documented until late into the 13th century. The lack of evidence in either case, and the controversy surrounding them leaves the catholic church with a bit of a conundrum, and outs Christians to a test of faith. The church of the Holy Sepluchure was first found by Helena, the mother of the Emperor Constantine. It is located at the tomb of Jesus Christ, owned by Joseph of Arimathea. The tomb is just outside the city gates of Jerusalem, because Jews did n’t let the dead be buried inside of the city except in the case of kings. The tomb was close to the place of the crucifixion, as it is believed that the same basilica is atop both Golgotha and the tomb. There is far less debate over the authenticity of the Tomb of Christ than the Shroud because it seems more than likely that the correct location of the tomb was recorded over the time elapsed between the death of Jesus and the time when, several centuries later, Helena discovered the site and started construction of the basilica over it. This is because at any given point during the elapsed time, there was always some recorded clan of Christians living inside the city of Jerusalem to pass down the tradition of where Jesus was buried. The Shroud of Turin has a much more dubious past and is filled with more controversy than any other relic save maybe the Holy Grail itself. The Shroud dates back to approximately the thirteenth century when it first turned up in mediaeval France, on display by private owners. The church suppressed the rising popularity of the cloth by removing it from the public view. ... The workers’ industrial action was to demand for a pay rise, as well as, demand for other benefits and allowances. What went wrong in measuring and managing risk associated with Research Paper

What went wrong in measuring and managing risk associated with financial institutions - Research Paper Example est rate risks, credit risks, foreign exchange risks, and liquidity risks that affected the functions of investment bankers, securities – stocks, bonds, derivatives -- mutual funds and insurance rate. A research into the measuring and managing techniques has been made to understand what went wrong and where. Taking the example of HSBC Holdings plc – a global financial institution providing all financial services under its umbrella, it has been attempted to explain how things went wrong. Financial institutions cater to the needs of different types of customers by providing relevant financial services. Financial institutions worldwide have been affected by the adverse market environment created by the US sub prime fiasco. Trouble began when the financial companies started relying too much on the innovation in the blind faith that it will yield returns. In the current context of sub prime melt down, initially the balloon of leveraging the assets’ market went on getting bigger and bigger, creating unrealistic and illusionary hype in market, which in the end shrank the balloon to cause global crisis of liquidity in financial institutions. Selling of financial products and services is a risky business, fraught with internal and external risks associated. Ernest Hemingways Hills Like White Elephants Analysis

Ernest Hemingways Hills Like White Elephants Analysis Miscommunication Ernest Hemingway’s â€Å"Hills Like White Elephants† is an intense story that depicts a couple at a crisis point in a relationship as they try to work out their problems. It is paramount that the story takes place at a train station in Spain They argue openly in public, trying to establish communication to each other’s antagonistic views on the future of their relationship should take. The story itself ends without any hint of a reasonable solution, the reader never knows how or if they manage to find prevalent ground they stand on with the problems that have surfaced. A close reading of the text reveals all kinds of delusions and misconceptions, which both distract the reader and engage in communication in the short tail. Hemingway displays a cunning theme of the inability to communicate effectively within a relationship, along with hints to a few smaller themes such as evasion of responsibility, that aid the main theme. Hemingway uses literary elements such as tone, similes, metaphors, and an abundance of symbols to convey the story. Hemingway uses tone to push the theme of communication in the story. The narrator is very controlled, giving the reader a glimpse of information outside of the conversations between the American and the girl; even among the American and the Bartender accommodating the drinks for that matter. Hemingway controls the propensity in the narrator’s way to tell what the story brings forth. Hemingway does this to allow the readers thinking to be perspicacious, but can withal make for rough reading. He uses different tones ranging from relaxing to distraught tunes in the dialog to allow the story to develop, yet, leaving the reader disoriented and left to critically think about what is being said in the story. Both the girl and the American are having a very relaxed and controlled conversation. Keep in mind that they are having this conversation in a public place that might or might not contribute to this control. Even in today’s society, talking about topics such as sexual intercourse, abortion, or relational ties, some might exercise some form of control when verbalizing about these intimate details in public. â€Å"While the two are talking, they seem to almost lose that control at points in the conversation and becomes a distraught tone, like when the woman frantically says: please, please, please, please, please, please, please stop talking(224). Later on when the American states, I might have. Just because you say I wouldnt have doesnt prove anything (224) The girl insinuates that he’s not well peregrinated enough to have visually discerned white elephants. At this point the conversation starts to lose traction and they start to lose control† of the situation. Though they are both able to get their somewhat respective stances across; neither of them are able to articulate why they feel the way they do without explanation. As a result, they both feel threatened, incriminated, and misunderstood. This transitions the tone from distraught, to a somewhat somber yet dejected tone; which is what the reader can visually perceive at the end of the story: Do you feel better? he asked. I feel fine, she said. Theres nothing wrong with me. I feel fine. (225) Since they can’t get past what they desire, to verbalize about why they desire it, there is a consummate communication breakdown. In a sense, both the girl and the American talk, but neither of them listen to each other or care to look at the problem from the other person’s point of view. â€Å"Hills Like White Elephants† is comprehensive of similes and metaphors because the language is throughout void of the words â€Å"abortion† and â€Å"baby† whereas thats all the characters are verbalizing of. For instance, at the station, the girl comments that the Anis Del Toro tastes like licorice, and also the man verbalizes that’s the manner with everything, to that the girl replies â€Å"Everything tastes of licorice. particularly all the items you’ve waited farewell for, like absinthe.† the American then replies, â€Å"Cut it out,†(222) Rather a full of life reaction to a seemingly innocuous comment. its potential that â€Å"absinthe† stands for one factor, to the couple that the reader is not cognizant of, but its additionally, potential that the lady is touching on but she has waited her whole life to induce maternity and have a baby but presently it has been spoiled for her by the American. Ultimately, the American’s ammunition throughout this verbal duel with the lady is that the flexibility to form the affiliation emotionally hostile to her, as proven by his reactions to her comments regarding the appearance of the hills and conjointly the indisputable fact that everything she waits for tastes like licorice. Hemingway implies the girl is additional showing emotion invested at intervals the connection that for the American is clearly for the most part regarding sex. Hemingway utilizes symbols and their meanings over the girl’s artistic ability, as she looks to look at and licitly order higher than what she has. The accepted of the hills, coveting like white elephants could also be a robust picture; a white elephant is a possession thats unutilizable or extreme, principally one thats precious to carry up or intense to kill. The hills and the mountains being printed as white elephants may move mind the image of a pregnant abdomen. The young girl is outlined as sitting on this side of the station, with its white slopes and tan (221), dry nation. This aspect shows the value of an innocent life, as associate outcome of it looks dead. On the flip side, when she stands up and peregrinates to the supplementary aspect of the station, she externally sees fields of green grass, delicious trees on the banks of the river, and also the massifs on the to date perspective the watercourse, thus representing the value of life and wanting to keep the child instead of getting an abortion. a tragic remnant of a cloud moves over the world of grain that might name the winnow she confronts, the transient pessimism in what may perhaps be associate united choose, or not turning into the premature birth. She externally sees the watercourse over the trees,(221) but, that proposes shes attending to grip the subsistence, the attrac tiveness, on the substance of it simply on the to date perspective her seizing. The station has many elements to explore. The station is Associated closely to that of Island in the middle of the ocean. It sits center of all these rail road tracks. If viewed from on prime of, the station would seem to be penned by tracks, rather sort of a baby would be contained at intervals a mother. The shade recommends an advertisement between time respites from the sun, astonishingly so much uniform to reckoning a train could also be associate alleviation from the travel. The snappiness of their conversation is on the amount, whereas others were within the bar sitting tight presumably for the train. This discriminatingly indicates that the young person is hardline. Bamboo has been nonetheless vacant, so if a cross serving of bamboo is investigated, it’s a spherical. This might encapsulate the uterus, vacuous. In spite of the means that if a string is see over bamboo, its filled, torrential unvaried to a pregnant abdomen ought to be. The wrap had Anis del Toro painted thence as embellishment, adequate, as an example, this current couples legitimacy ought to appear, by all accounts, to be expeditiously numerous to associate within the outside spectator. The wrap blows confining the table, as if it’s associate proof of the young girl of the choice she got to have an effect on. Exactly once the rule of potation are doled out on the table by the server, they are resolved to gain pads and started drinking to distract themselves from the argument. By the amount the third globe of potation is scattered, the liners are saturated. They did not block the wet from physically incoming at the table. This might be run of the mill of birth prevention floundering, but in a very venue of while not a doubt a table procuring wet, the young person becomes pregnant. As a conclusion of the birth prevention battling, the American and also the young person become into this discord in this not one or the opposite one among them will assent close-by the others membrane begin. When the quality of three rounds of potation square measure apportioned on the table by the server, they are bent on to gain pads. Being consequently sultry, the glasses sweat. They did not deflect the soaked from physically incoming at the table. This might be run of the mill of birth prevention slumping, b ut in a very zone of definitely a table obtaining wet, the young person becomes pregnant. As a consequence of the birth prevention battling, the American and also the young person become into this conflict in this not one or the opposite one among them will concur adjacent the others acknowledge starting. Hemingway uses literary devices such as tone, similes, metaphors, and symbols to approach the reader at a different approach of analyzing a story. Hemingway uses these literary devices to trick the reader into thinking about a story when the story itself is encoded to be something completely hidden from the text, which in this case the hidden conversation was about abortion. Communication is a huge part in many places ranging from workplaces and also relationships. Without communication things fail and will not progress forward. North and South :: essays papers

North and South The first two reading selections for Economics 344 make some notable observations about the growth and development of budding economies. In Engerman and Sokoloff’s chapter entitled â€Å"Factor Endowments, Institutions, and Differential Paths of Growth Among New World Economies,† the authors compare the economic growth levels of the North American colonies to those of Latin American colonies. Then, in â€Å"Tracking the Economic Divergence of the North and the South,† Peter Coclanis notes the different economic paths taken by these two distinct regions of the United States. Overall, these two essays are similar in nature – they make similar comparisons across two regions using similar criteria. The readings, however, differ drastically in their subject matter and in the scope of the comparisons. In the first reading, Stanley Engerman and Kenneth Sokoloff attempt to explain what factors contributed to the different levels of economic development between the North American colonies and the Latin American colonies. They hypothesize that the United States and Canada were able to sustain economic growth due to factor endowments that were superior to those of Central and South America. Endowments such as climate, soil, and density of the native population, they say, predisposed certain colonies to accomplishing economic growth. Institutions and government policies such as land policies and trade regulations were also significant determining factors, but less so than factor endowments. After comparing the prosperous colonies to the less prosperous, the authors then briefly state differences within the United States colonies as far as economic growth is concerned. Numerous differences in the economic patterns of the North and the South are pointed out – indeed, in many ways the South resembled those colonies that became less successful. Despite these distinctions, in the end, the authors conclude that overall, â€Å"the South’s economy was a unique case and ultimately realized a record of growth more like those of the northern United States or Canada.† The second piece compares the patterns of economic growth experienced by the North and the South. Coclanis points out numerous variations in the economies of the two regions from the seventeenth century and forward two hundred years. The factor endowments are noted here as well, while political factors play less of a role. Overall, the author concludes that the economic divergence of the North and South was quite large, and the differences most definitely outweigh the similarities. The two readings share both remarkable similarities as well as sharp differences.

Week Final

My upbringing was of a military family with my Father being from central Indiana and my mother coming from Japan, this difference has interestingly shaped my views a little bit differently from hers, but on the same side of things as we have become older shaped a truly similar point of view on ourselves, family, and society. Taking the Myers Briggs test I scored a type SITS and was named a Trustee, meaning that I was more Introverted, sensing, thinking, and Judging than my mate although similar with a type JIFFS and names conservator tying between introverted and extroverted, ensign, feeling, and judging being her higher marked percentages. What I found out is that for me it was pretty accurate I feel as I am more introverted when it comes to accomplishments and things that I can do to make things matter most. Am a thinker and think most before doing something whether It has to do with myself of others, and overtime have become Judging in my perception of Issues or Ideas. My Interviewe e tested similar with the exception of being more feeling, I for one can see this as she is always looking out for the less fortunate, and helping when she can no tater what, spreading her schedule thinner as the days of the week unfold. My interviewer remembers information better if given the opportunity to observe rather than reading about a behavior. The reason was given that to observe Is better than reading as translation can be misconstrued or left out when trying to remember Just what It was you had Just read about.I for one am split between the two as I do learn better by observing an example or technique than reading, but feel strongly that I can also read about behaviors or techniques and then apply what I had just read bout, I also feel that with the more media on sicknesses and disorders in schools and with more kids being diagnosed with ADD it comes to a point that what you take in daily Is the information on what signs to look for and where to seek help, another Instan ce is that It seems like you can Just talk to any given parent who has kids and school and you will find someone who has experienced this firsthand or knows someone who has dealt with it. Interviewee chooses to study at home with distractions and noise as opposed to going to a quiet place like a public library. She feels as though noise and distractions are of no concern over the ability to be comfortable in her own setting at home, and she doesn't really want to be in a place unfamiliar because that alone will give her more distractions than any that could could settle into a calm quiet environment better to be able to concentrate better with little or no distraction apparent. I know that if I chose to study at home and was not able to retreat to my downstairs office for peace and quiet I would not be able to concentrate long enough to do any good. One way I study at home is to do it either early in the morning or later in the evening so that I am not tempted to see what else the fa mily is doing of find myself choosing to partake in other activities other than studying. The results of the Myers Briggs test for the interviewee was one of being a conservator; she was more opt to minister to others needs and desired to be of service to others first besides herself.I on the other hand was one of Trustee, decisive in practical affairs, and a guardian of time honored institutions. My interviewee felt as if the test was somewhat accurate and that it lacked accuracy on how she believed she should of scored, she had a hard time believing that only a little over 13% of the population was indeed similar to her. She felt that with Christianity being as high as it was in the U. S. That more people should have been scored as to have the desire to help others in need and to mentor to them. I thought that the test was fairly accurate for me as I am very traditional in my thinking and decisive, but felt similar as I thought that more than 11% should be like me.My interviewee t hought that childhood memories of church and observations on how her parents treated others shaped her personality as a young women, and then as she matured it grew into a better relationship with her memories of church that helped her to continue to want to go and become better at doing the things that Christ has died for us to become. She felt strongly that it was her desire or the Holy Spirit moving in her lead her to this understanding and defines who she is today. I felt different as I was never brought up in church and didn't even attend church until I aired my wife and was then arrears old. I feel that my parents strong will to be respectable after all my father was in the Ana and I held a pretty straight line or suffered the consequences for my actions, that and the Japanese culture from my mother's side which has a very high respect for a family honor that molded my transformation as a young man to adulthood.I do feel that after living the way I did, which was a typical one as a young man it was later in life when my wife asked me to attend church that I felt something was missing and that desire led to my walk with Christ that shaped my personality today. Interviewee feels as if she is very self monitoring as I pertains to her attitude each and every day, an attitude that starts with what she takes in, what she reads, watches, meditates to, music she listens to, and even the food she eats. She made the comments â€Å"garbage in garbage out†. I felt as if this has also led my day as well. I choose to be conscious of what I say and what I do. This awareness affords me the ability to handle the everyday stresses with work, school, kids, etc. Tit confidence that I can get through the day Just as long as I have the attitude to behave positively and responsibly. The strongest things that influence the interviewee's attitudes are scripture. She gives GOD her first and last each and every day. This positive uplifting meditation that includes, prayer, b ible readings, and awareness allows herself to be charged for positive things and allows her the ability to handle stressful times with integrity and honor to GOD. The thing that I felt strongly about that has the most influence on my attitude is my mind. If I allow things torn down with negative influences. I too feel that a conscious relationship with Christ has offered me and equipped my spirit to handle stressful situations with integrity and honor as well.

Exploratons and Colonization of North and South America...

Exploration and colonization of North and South America were ultimately not beneficial in the 15th and 16th centuries because it wiped out many cultures and did more harm than good. First of all, the Europeans forcibly converted the Natives to Christianity. This had a great negative impact because it resulted in the loss of native cultures. Over time, many Native American languages started to disappear from common use and English took over. Many may argue that colonization and exploration were important because of the Columbian Exchange that arose from it, however diseases and the slave trade also came from the Columbian exchange. I believe that the death of millions was not a reasonable price to pay for the benefits of the Europeans. It†¦show more content†¦They created the Maryland Toleration Act which required religious toleration in the British North American colonies (msa.maryland.gov). Rhode Island is another example of a religiously tolerant colony. With the help of R oger Williams, Rhode Island was able to separate the church from the state. The colonies of Pennsylvania, Maryland and Rhode Island set the model for other colonies to follow. More and more colonies started the practice religious tolerance (andycrown.net). Though there were some colonies that did not practice religious tolerance, the majority of the colonies did practice religious tolerance. The horrible and brutal treatment of the Native Americans were unnecessary and could have been avoided. Men like Columbus and Cortes treated the Natives with a cruel and brutal hand. They enslaved a great amount of natives, they brought disease to the natives and they ruthlessly killed the Natives for no good reason. There could have been other ways in which the Natives and Europeans could have interacted in order to get what both sides wanted. For example, the Columbian Exhange could have occurred without violence. The Europeans and Natives could have respectfully made deals about trade rather than the Europeans just coming in and taking what the pleased. All in all, the Europeans only did things to benefit themselves and brutally destroyed the people and culture of
